The Art Guild's first "Meet & Critique Night" was held on Nov. 10th.  It was hosted by Mario Tucci, the Meet & Critique Committee Chair, who was assisted by committee members Milt Masur, Beth Costello, Beth Stover Ricciardi, Tiffany Hsin Wakeham & Jane McGraw.  We had 14 critique presenters and over 20 attendees in total.  It ran for about 2 hours.

The next Meet & Critique Night for Painters & Sculptors will be on Tues.January 12th at 7PM in the Elderfields’ Main Gallery.  To present a work for a critique you must RSVP to Mario at mtucci@yahoo.com at lease 3 days prior.  Members presenting for critiques should bring one work, preferably a work in progress to be critiqued by their peers.  Members can also come just to critique and/or observe.

Rules for Presenters: Presenters are encouraged to give a brief to the point description of their work and respond to critiques but please have a thick skin.  Don’t be defensive.  Be open to suggestions.  Information will emerge and be exchanged at these meetings that you can’t get anywhere else.  It can only benefit you if you are open to it.  If your critique is completed early, we ask that you give your peers the same courtesy by staying to the end and assisting in their critiques.

Rules for Critiques: Only constructive critiques have any value!  Negative critiques are not appropriate.  If you can’t offer a solution to a problem, please allow others to offer theirs and you will learn along with the presenter.

Refreshments: Coffee, tea and snacks will be available we encourage members to bring some snacks to share if they wish.

Attendee’s comments:
“The evening had a good flow, good suggestions and overall a positive experience for all.”  - Jane McGraw

"I thought the evening went very well. I was impressed by the thoughtfulness of the group in both their approach to individual artists and their considerations of problems and solutions for each piece.  I would attend again, and am already considering which piece to bring." - Diane Bares

“It is so interesting to hear how other artist get stuck and don't know where to go with their work.  I also loved hearing what motivated a piece.” - Ilene Silberstein

“I was encouraged to know that the group was willing to accept a new-comer like me - both in listening and offering suggestions. … It is clear to me that this group has many good suggestions and many good teachers.” – Aleta Crawford

“It was very informative, and I did find some directions to explore in my painting.  It was well organized, and supportive of the artists.  I hope I can bring something in progress to the next meeting.  Yes, I would recommend this to other TAG members, and yes, I plan to attend regularly.” -  Elaine Walden
