Hello Everyone,
This has been an unforgettable year for us all in The Art Guild. As you know from having received a recent letter, we’ve signed an agreement with Nassau County that enables us to use the Elderfields Preserve as a home for TAG! This is an incredible step forward for us!
During this year, I’ve had the opportunity to meet many new people from Port and the surrounding communities. I’ve spoken with gardeners, architects, contractors, artists, and politicians, all of whom think that a community Art Center will be a wonderful addition to our area. This is truly an exciting undertaking and we need your help!
The center will be called The Art Guild at Elderfields, and I’m looking forward to many wonderful classes there, as well as presentations and workshops. I look forward to the relationships with artists who will work there. Over time as we grow, we hope to have artists-in-residency workshops as well.
If you drive down Pt.Washington Blvd., turn into the driveway. You’ll see that a lot of work has already been done at Elderfields by Nassau County. There is a new roof, and the driveway and parking areas are being paved. The exterior of the house will be painted. There is a resident caretaker who is doing a wonderful job of trimming, mowing etc. TAG is replacing old trellis work in back of the house, redesigning and redoing the gardens, electrical and plumbing upgrades and interior painting. We need easels and art furniture, and many other items that were listed in the letter sent to members.
There is ample opportunity for anyone who wants to help to do so either by hands-on work, by donating needed items like easels, stools or a computer, or by making a financial donation. Please contact me or any member of the TAG board if you want more information.
We have been fortunate in so many ways, including the ongoing opportunity to exhibit at the State Bank. Thanks to the involvement of Ivan Frisch, many of us have had the pleasure of showing artwork there. You’ll find that there are many ways to use your skills and talents in our group, and we’ll have the opportunity to get to know each other.
I look forward to meeting you and sharing plans and ideas that you might like to see happen at Elderfields!
Warmly,
