This piece represents the feeling of \u201cdrowning\u201d that I and so many others have experienced in 2020. The flowing material in the picture dragging down to the bottom represents the weight of school, work, and covid precautions weighing us down. Like the figure in the photo, 2020 has made so many of us feel like screaming out, but our words are drowned. We want to reach out to our family and our friends, but we simply can\u2019t quite reach the surface and get back to the real world. This year has made us all feel trapped, as if drowning with no way out.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is from my series of photographs of the block long Black Lives Matter pop-up memorial made of plain paper laminated photos of victims of violent racism. This was located along the Hudson River walkway in Hoboken, New Jersey between 11th and 12th Streets, in the Fall of 2020. I was capture by and want to photograph the b&w photos with the color and environment of the surroundings.<\/p>\n

Since 2013 Sweeps is my continuing body of work where during the exposure, the camera is moving, just like a brush which can create multi shaped photographs. BLM POP-UP Memorial, Hoboken #1 is a photograph digital print on dibond and hangs about 2 inches of the wall which acts as the negative space of this photograph.<\/span><\/p>\n

I chose this submission because I felt that the leaves brought me into a fantasy. This photo reminds me of the stories like Alice and Wonderland and Little Red Riding Hood. You don\u2019t know what’s behind the leaves but you can imagine that there is a wonderful place waiting to be discovered.<\/span><\/p>\n

This was at a Black Lives Matter protest on the steps of Los Angeles City Hall. The protests had just started, and despite the danger of Covid, I felt like it was important to take part in this important moment in time in our country.<\/span><\/p>\n

This photo gives me warmth and reminds me of the happiness of my cat during quarantine. The sunlight on the thick white fur of the cat is a really cool effect I can almost feel just from this picture.<\/span><\/p>\n
