Oil Painting for Beginners with Joan Stevens<\/strong>

This class will start with the very basics of\u00a0oil painting \u2013 \u00a0drawing techniques, designing your composition, preparing your\u00a0canvas or surface, and mixing colors. Joan will familiarize students with what supplies to use, different surfaces (pros and cons), the color wheel and color mixing.
Each week, Joan will demo on a subject and students will work on a painting related to the demo. Joan is a fun and relaxed teacher who gives lots of individual help in an environment of creativity and support.<\/p>\n

Joan Stevens Bio<\/strong>:\u00a0Born in Brooklyn, Joan moved to Long Island in her teens. She always had a love of drawing and painting,\u00a0She works in oils but also sketches in charcoal and pencil.\u00a0Joan graduated from St. John\u2019s University with a degree in Fine Art and from there went to FIT to earn a\u00a0degree in illustration. She has studied with Robert Baxter, Charles Pasqualina, Howard Rose, Kim English\u00a0and Peggi Kroll Roberts. Always returning to her love of figure drawing she can still be found taking life\u00a0drawing classes in her home town of Long Beach.
She has had many jobs in the world of art including illustration, art director, photo stylist, muralist, window\u00a0dresser, and face painter. Her company, Through the Looking Glass, designs and installs store windows and\u00a0decorates for events at restaurants and parties.
Joan has exhibited her work in group and solo shows throughout Long Island. Venues include\u00a0The National Art League of Douglaston, Art League of Long Island, Elderfield Preserve, Adelphi University,\u00a0Le Bon Amis Gallery,\u00a0 Martha Clara Vineyard, and iFly Trapeze. She has been commissioned for portraits and\u00a0landscapes and has donated many pieces to raise money for various charities.\u00a0She teaches oil painting and drawing at Garden City High school.\u00a0Joan paints pleine aire whenever possible and is constantly inspired by the beauty of Long Island.

Oil Painting with Joan Stevens<\/strong>\n6 weeks: Tuesdays, January 8, 15, 22, 29, February 5, 12<\/strong>\n<\/strong><\/em>10am - 1pm<\/strong>\n$240M\/$275NM<\/strong><\/h3>\n\"\"<\/a>Whether you are a newbie or an experienced painter, this class will cover many aspects of oil painting. From the very basics of how to start  \u2013 preparing your canvas, designing your compositions and mixing colors \u2013 to demonstrations on the color palette and painting applications. \nStudents are encouraged to work from photos of paintings they admire or artists they would like to learn from as well as their own photographs or designs.
