A semi-private studio program for middle and high school students who want to build strong skills in drawing, painting, and mixed media. Students work at their own level with individualized instruction in a structured, supportive environment.

Fall After-School Classes

ADVANCED CHARACTER DESIGN: ANIME, COMICS & GRAPHIC NOVELS

Grade 6+
Take your character design skills to the next level as you create original anime, comic, manga, and graphic novel characters while developing drawing techniques, storytelling skills, and your own unique artistic style.
Day: Tuesday

STUDIO ART: DEVELOPING TECHNIQUE & CREATIVITY

Grade 6+
A highly personalized studio art class for motivated young artists that strengthens drawing and painting skills while developing creative expression with Kevin’s supportive guidance.

ANIME & CHARACTER DRAWING USING PROCREATE ON IPAD

Grade 6+
A fun, fast-paced digital art class where students use Procreate on the iPad to create original anime-inspired characters while learning sketching, inking, coloring, cel shading, and expressive character design.
Day: Wednesday
Time: 5:15pm – 6:45pm

Grades 6+
Join Mr. Manny, a longtime Art Guild favorite, who brings creativity, music, and positive energy into a supportive studio where teens build skills, confidence, and artistic expression through guided, hands-on learning.

VISUAL NARRATIVE & DIGITAL ANIMATION

Grades 9+
From sketchbook to screen, students will create original characters through traditional drawing, then use Procreate Dreams to bring them to life through digital illustration, animation, and visual storytelling.

Manny Villalobos "Mr. Manny"

Manuel Adolfo Villalobos is a Fine Artist, Musician and Art Educator from New York. He has achieved a bachelors in Art Education from Long Island University Post and is also a co-founding member of the alternative hip-hop group A SideOf Darkness (A.S.O.D), were he goes under the stage name OG Manny G. Through his music and art he expresses socially and politically driven awareness which is showcased in his artwork and rhythmic lyrics.

Kevin Yen

Kevin came to the United States from Taiwan to pursue his education in fine art and illustration. He studied painting, illustration, and photography at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. He has over three decades of experience in the art industry which includes freelance work with Marvel and DC Comics. Kevin‘s art work is sought after by private collectors and some of his clients have been Pier One, St. Francis College, Nike, and Make-A-Wish

Karl Benware

Karl is a visual artist and educator who brings curiosity, creativity, and a sense of fun into the studio. With experience teaching art to students in grades K–7, he creates hands-on lessons that encourage experimentation, storytelling, and creative confidence. He studied Liberal Arts and Sciences at SUNY Stony Brook, Nassau Community College, and Mohawk Valley Community College.

Sarah Ely

Sarah Ely is a long-time lover of everything art. She enjoys exploring her emotions through her abstract paintings and drawings, while occasionally diving into digital art. Sarah has taught for the past 4 years at Woodward Children’s Center in Freeport for students with special needs. Her teaching philosophy is to make sure all students feel welcomed by demonstrating how art is accessible to all.

Brandasund Peterson is a Long Island artist, animator, and art educator with a degree in Art and Design Education from Adelphi University. His background in traditional and digital art inspires students to build confidence, creativity, and technical skills in a fun, supportive environment. At The Art Guild, he teaches beginner drawing, acrylic painting, Procreate, and children’s art classes.

Phillip DiResta is a professional character designer and illustrator with more than 25 years of experience bringing toys, comics, and entertainment brands to life. An SVA graduate, he teaches students the drawing and design skills professionals use to create memorable characters while encouraging creativity and individual style.
