Constructive Figure Drawing with Greg Follender
Feb 27, March 5, 12, April 2, April 23, April 30, May 7, 14 • 4-7 pm
$440M/$475NM
Learning to draw without the trepidation of constant internal criticism can be both incredibly liberating and beneficial to the working artist.
In this class, students will learn how to trust their own instincts and quiet the internal critic that often hampers successful gesture drawing. Short, timed sketching sessions will allow participants to quickly turn the figure in deep space and represent the nude form in more dramatic and challenging poses, while longer drawings will encourage the expression of volume and weight in the subject.
These exercises are designed to establish easy-to-follow anatomical formulas and increased recognition of important body landmarks. The sketch sessions will build confidence exponentially until students find that they can document the nude figure in dramatically less time than before, enabling them to concentrate more on the fluid expression of their marks on paper instead of the simple reportage of their subject.
ABOUT GREG FOLLENDER:
Greg Follender is a New York based artist/Illustrator who has been teaching drawing and sculpting classes at the American Museum of Natural History for almost two decades. His passionate pursuit of rendering the human form has taken him from the dynamic world of comic books and graphic novels, to character design and costume fabrication in the industry of film and television.
When he isn’t working on his oil paintings or comic pages, Greg teaches figure drawing and anatomy workshops at The Art Students League of New York City.

Building Your Artist Website Workshop with Leeanna Chipana
Create a finished portfolio website in one weekend.
An easy step-by-step approach.
Two-Day Workshop – January 13-14, 10-5pm
$300M/$330NM
In this step by step workshop, Leeanna will teach students a simple way to create their own artist website, without needing any knowledge whatsover of writing code, with ultra user-friendly Squarespace (squarespace.com) or Wix (Wix.com). Each student will build their own personal portfolio website from start to finish.
Leeanna will guide students every step of the way, teaching about the various features of these options and choose a format to fit their needs.
The goal is for students leave with a professional website that they know how to use confidently – update, add images, and information – no web designer needed!
Students will need to come to the workshop with their own laptop, have purchased their own domain name, and come prepared with at least five jpg images of their art. Please bring a notebook to take notes.
Domain names can be purchased at any Domain/Hosting site (ex: GoDaddy.com). Please purchase your domain name at least two days before the workshop. It’s recommended that you purchase a domain name with your name (easiest for people to remember). Examples: JaneSmith.com, JaneSmithStudio.com, JaneSmithFineArt.com, or JaneSmithArt.com.
Leeanna Chipana is an artist working on Long Island’s North shore and a now a resident studio artist at The Art Guild.
