The Power of Watercolor Workshop with Antonio Masi
Aug 5, 6, 7, 2016, 10-4 pm
In this three day workshop with award-winning watercolorist Antonio Masi, artists will learn how to use untapped power of watercolor! The focus will be on how to approach this thin medium from a contemporary point of view, bold, powerful, emotional and delicate, not the traditional transparent way it is looked upon.
Mr. Masi teaches though demonstrations and one-on-one with each student, so he can understand the student’s level as a starting point.
Students will work from photos; their own paintings, sketches, imagination and plein aire in Elderfields’ beautiful backyard.

About Antonio Masi: Mr. Masi, is President of the American Watercolor Society and has been featured in The Artist’s Magazine, PBS – Sunday Arts, NBC-TV Weekend Today in New York, and a Newsday feature in August 2008, “Bridgemaster.” In June 2009 he had a solo exhibition for The New York Centennial Commission of the Queensboro Bridge, a solo show in 2010 at The Forbes Gallery in New York City, The New York City Transit Museum in 2012, and The Salmagundi Club of New York. He is featured in the September 2014, The New York Times video, “Living City: A Tale of Two Bridges.”

Advanced Art Studio For High School Students
Grades 9 – 12
8 weeks • Dates TBA • 6 – 8 pm
$200m/230nm
This course is designed to assist the advanced drawing/painting/2-D design student in their freshman through senior years. Instructor will mentor and critique pre-assigned school projects or assign projects. There will be open studio time for students to work with the aid of the instructor to learn or enhance a specific skill or technique.
Classes will cover usage of various mediums including color theory, composition and life drawing. Guest speakers will stop by to demonstrate various techniques and skills.
Students should bring a pad of 18” x 24” drawing paper (not newsprint), 2B, 4B, 6B, 8B pencils, a kneaded eraser, and 3-5 samples of their work to the first class.

Five percent of the net sales for the day (in the Manhasset store only) will be donated to The Art Guild. Poetry Workshop Series: “Approaching Art”
Begins September 10, 2016

The Art Guild invites local poets to participate in a new project called “APPROACHING ART: A Long Island Poetry Project at the Art Guild of Port Washington.” In this six-session workshop series, poets will view art at the Guild’s Manhasset location and then write poetry reflecting what they’ve seen, a creative process known as ekphrasis. These workshops will begin on September 10, reconvening as new shows are installed.
The resulting poems will be published in an anthology edited by George Wallace, first Suffolk County
Poet Laureate, publisher of the online magazine Poetrybay and current Walt Whitman Birthplace Writer in Residence. The workshops will be facilitated by Lisa James, who hosts a monthly poetry reading through the Performance Poets Association.
There will be spots for up to 12 poets per workshop. The cost is $20 a session, discounted to $80 if signing up for all six sessions at once.
