*** Outdoor Classes are held in our Outdoor Classroom under a tent so that social distancing can be practiced. Face mask guidelines must be followed and tables will be cleaned between classes. Guidelines will be provided to all students upon registration.

Using Still life, landscape and figures as a point of departure, this class will explore the dynamics of using acrylics in both conventional and unconventional ways. The properties of acrylics range from watercolor-like to oil paint-like and can also be used graphically.

As one of the top plein air painters in the country, Kirk has spent a lifetime refining and adjusting his use of virtually all media to serve the artist in the most diverse and efficient way. Artists will work towards finishing in class painting exercises in single sessions, to build proficiency and control and supplement with a multiple session piece at home with in class feedback.and individual guidance.

One of the best qualities of acrylics is the ability to be manipulable and refine a piece in progress and learning how to let the paint do its part of the work (or play) can free up the artist’s creative flow. Adjusted for each person’s current skill, this fun, upbeat and unique class is based upon the KLM (Kirk Larsen Method) which accelerates the learning curve in art.

Notebook and Pen (Can be a bound sketch book or spiral sketch book

Table Easel (if you prefer to work flat, bring a towel to protect the table)

  Ultramarine Blue

  Cadmium Yellow or Equivalent

  Hookers Green or Phalo Green

  Bright Red or Cadmium Red Medium

  Cadmium Orange or equivalent

  Titanium White

  Black

Optional Paints:

  Phalo Blue

  Yellow Ochre

  Bright Green

  Alizerin Crimson or equivalent

Brushes:

  Natural Bristle or Synthetic Bristle

  Flat: 1/4”, 1/2”, 3/4”

Pallet Knife (1 or more)

Small spray bottle for misting (Spritzer – re-purposed clean spray bottle from cleaning products will suffice)

Paint rags and or paper towels

2 Water Containers (large yogurt or coffee can size)

Pallet, Pallet Paper or Plastic Plate

Clean take-out container with fitted lid for saving paint)

Substraits: (Canvas panels, Gesso Panels, or wood coated with flat white paint or primer)

This course is for experienced artists to advance their drawing skills, enhance their confidence and efficiency.

Through demonstration, in-class exercises, and at-home practice (optional), the artist will learn to trust their line and embellish their visual accuracy and ability to translate what they see to paper or canvas.

In-classroom drills will help you to capture imagery, eliminate wasted lines, and also help each artist to find and enhance their artistic vocabulary. For the novice artist that already draws, right up to semi-professional & professional artists, this class can bring your acumen to that next level.

Working in pencil, pen, and charcoal additional media can be utilized. Adjusted for each person’s current skill, this fun, upbeat and unique class is based upon the KLM (Kirk Larsen Method) which accelerates the learning curve in art.

The Art Guild invites all artists, high school and older, to submit artworks for consideration for “JUSTICE” a Juried Competition and Exhibition. Artwork can say what sometimes words cannot. During these difficult times, we have been inspired to look within ourselves, find ways to “speak out,” and express solidarity and compassion. Show us those emotions and what has empowered and inspired you to address social justice.

 

CRITERIA All styles from abstract to realism are welcome. All works must be original and have been created in the last five years. References used in the creation of the submitted work must be the artist’s own, or copyright-released for use in this work. The curating committee’s decision is final.

JUROR OF AWARDS: Seung Lee is a Korean-American contemporary artist. He is currently Director of Fine Arts and Graduate Studies and a professor at Long Island University, Post Campus. He received a BFA in Drawing from Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland and an MFA in Painting from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York.
His paintings, drawings, and large-scale installations have been exhibited extensively in the US as well as internationally:  China, Italy, France, Japan, and Korea. He has received numerous reviews in the New York Times, Newsday, Kyoto Times, Korea Daily News, Art Word Magazine, Art in Culture Magazine, Art Price Magazine, and Art and People Magazine. He has been featured in “Artist Profiles of Korea and Japan” several times.
Seung Lee has received awards from the New York State Governor, Nassau County Supervisor, Suffolk County Supervisor,  New Jersey City Mayor; and in 2011, Seung was awarded as “Best International Korean Artist” from the Korean Art Association. Seung Lee was invited twice to give a lecture at the National Art Educators Association Conference in NYC: “NY Artist Series: Seung Lee”.  Seung has been a judge in Decentralization Grants for New York Artists, International Documentary Film Festival, Islip Art Museum’s Cottage House Project, and International Nature Art Biennial, Mill Pond House, and many more.

ABOUT MANNY VILLALOBOS a

    Manuel Adolfo Villalobos is a Fine Artist, Musician and Art Educator from New York. He has achieved a bachelors in Art Education from Long Island University Post and is also a co-founding member of the alternative hip-hop group A Side Of Darkness (A.S.O.D), where he goes under the stage name OG Manny G. Through his music and art he expresses socially and politically driven awareness which is showcased in his artwork and rhythmic lyrics.

CALL FOR ENTRIES The Art Guild of Port Washington (TAG) will hold its  2020 Members Showcase Exhibit online from September 13-October 3, 2020. All TAG members, including HS students are invited to enter their artwork. Non-members can become members at time of submission. Deadline for submission extended: Monday, August 24 (11:59 pm).

 

ELIGIBILITY All TAG members, including HS students, may submit. Membership must be current. One entry per member. All styles are welcome. All works must be original and completed within the last five years. Works previously exhibited at The Art Guild Gallery will not be accepted. JUROR OF AWARDS: Doug Dawson was born in Oak Park, Ill. He has taught art for Colorado Institute of Art, Colorado Christian University, and The Art Students League of Denver. He is a founding board member for the The Art Students League of Denver, where he presently teaches a Plein Air class and a Studio Landscape class. He teaches 8 to 10 workshops around the country each year.

Doug has exhibited with and/or received numerous awards from a number of different art organizations, including,  The Pastel Society of America,  American Watercolor Society, Knickerbocker Artists,  The National Academy of Western Art,  Southeastern Pastel Society,  Pastel Society of West Coast,  Audubon Artists,  Kansas Pastel Society,   Allied Artists,  the Pastel Society of the Southwest,  the Pastel Society of New Mexico, the Pastel Society of Oregon,  the Pastel Society of Colorado,  and the International Association of Pastel Societies.
To honor his achievements, he was given the title of Master Pastelist by the Pastel Society of America (NY, NY) in 1985 and awarded the title of Master Circle by the International Association of Pastel Societies in 2005  (California). REGISTRATION AND ENTRY FEE Pre-registration is required! (Fees below.) You MUST pre-register no later than August 17. Works will be accepted on a first come first served basis. There is no jurying-in process, however you will need to send us an image for our online exhibit.

ENTRIES One (1) digital submission uploaded to our website or emailed to artshow@TheArtGuild.org. Images should be  between 1 and 3MB each. Label your images as follows: artist’slastname_firstname_entrynumber_title.jpg (ex: smith_john_1_beachsunset.jpg). Do not use the # or other symbols in the file name. You MUST change the actual name of the image file. Images CANNOT be named “image.jpg” or “fullrender.jpg” or similar – our database overwrites these images. If you email the images, you must include your name, contact information and the title, medium, value, and size in your email. We will invoice you for the entry fee. All entry fees must be paid by Monday, August 17 to be included into the exhibit.

 

 

 

Please be aware that the digital images you send should look as good as they possibly can. These will be the images that will be displayed in our online gallery. Try to photograph your image in natural light, that the image is straight and that there is no glare on glass or varnished surface. (It is preferable to photograph without glass.) SELLING YOUR ARTWORK

Artwork may be sold directly by the artist with a suggested donation of 20% of the selling price from the artist to The Art Guild. Note, however, that sales may not be made at the exhibition. All work must remain on view for the duration of the exhibit.
