Each donated finished work of art will auctioned, starting at $100 with 100% of the proceeds going towards High School Student Scholarships and The Art Guild’s Revitalization Fund.

2017 Nassau County High School Student Juried Exhibit

CALL FOR ENTRIES: The Art Guild invites all Nassau County High School Students to submit digital images of their 2D or 3D artworks for consideration to its “Nassau County High School Student Juried Art Competition & Exhibition” which will be on view at The Art Guild’s home, Elderfields Historic Preserve.
CRITERIA: All styles from abstract to realism are welcome. Student’s 2D or 3D work must be original and done “by hand” (no mechanical reproductions or giclees) and created within the last two years. The selection committee’s decision is final. Works to be included in this exhibition must be available from October 31 – November 27, 2016. No exceptions.
MEDIUMS: Including but not limited to acrylic, oil, watercolor, pastel, mixed media, digital art, collage, encaustic, etching/prints or sculpture with pedestal. (NO COPIES, PHOTOGRAPHY, REPRODUCTIONS OR GICLEES.)
SIZE: Maximum size 30 x 30 inches including frame.
JUROR: Bennett Horowitz was born and raised in Queens County in New York City. He recently retired from teaching after spending seven years offering studio and art history instruction at the High School of Art & Design in Manhattan, in order to devote himself fulltime to fine arts painting. Horowitz is now primarily focused on developing his own Expressionist style of landscape painting; in the past he has also done a great deal of portrait/narrative figure painting. Horowitz received his BFA from Pratt Institute and his MFA from the California College of the Arts in Oakland, with additional training in graphic design, typography and computer graphics at the School of Visual Arts. He has worked professionally as an illustrator and magazine designer. Horowitz has been a fellow at the MacDowell Colony; his artwork has been exhibited at the Queens Museum and the Fine Arts Museum of Long Island, as well as numerous other solo and group shows.
ENTRY FEE: $25.00 for up to TWO entries per student.
Each student must fill out a separate form. No combining of fees or entries.

ACCEPTANCE NOTIFICATION: The Art Guild Selection Committee will review all entries and notify each artist as to the acceptance of submitted work by October 18, 2017. FRAMING: Artwork must be framed unless gallery wrapped. Mat boards must be clean. All work must be securely wired for hanging with the wire attached via screw eyes or D-rings to the frame. ABSOLUTELY NO sawtooth hangers, duct tape, or glued on wires. Label back of work with artist’s name and title of piece. Please contact The Art Guild with ANY questions or concerns.

Palate to Palette: The Art of Food & Dining
October 7 – October 29, 2017
CALL FOR ENTRIES Call for entries Art Guild invites all artists, 18 years and older (high school students ages 14-18 years may enter in the student category), to submit artworks for consideration for “Palate to Palette: The Art of Food and Dining” a Juried Competition and Exhibition. From sumptuous still-lifes or a single shiny apple, from casual picnics and farmers markets to elaborate thanksgiving dinners, food helps define tradition and culture, trigger memories and make new ones. Show us your favorites!
Criteria All styles from abstract to realism are welcome. All works must be original, and have been created in the last five years. The selection committee’s decision is final. Works to be included in this exhibition must be available from October 2 – 29, 2017.

JUROR Susan Goetz Zwirn is the Director and Professor of Art Education at Hofstra University. Susan teaches courses in arts education, studio art, museums, and research on the brain and learning. She grew up in Port Washington and is honored to have raised and educated her children there.
As a painter, Susan’s art encompasses the realistic and abstract in both landscape and figurative images. Her work reflects a strong sense of place and mood, having been inspired by travel as well as her local surroundings of Long Island, NY. Susan’s paintings have been exhibited nationally and received many awards; much of her art can be found in personal and corporate collections in the US and abroad.
Susan received her undergraduate degree from Clark University and her graduate degrees from the Rhode Island School of Design and Columbia University.

JUROR Diana DeSantis is a portrait painter who has studied with David Leffel and Harvey Dinnerstein. She is a master pastelist at the International Assoc. of Pastel Societies; a signature member of Pastel Society of America; a fellow of American Artist Professional League and a member of the Portrait Society of America. Her work has been published in American Artist, Artist Magazine, The Pastel Journal. Her work has been shown at the Nassau County Museum of Art; Heckscher Museum; National Arts Club, Manhattan; Salmagundi Club; and Pastel Society exhibits in France, Italy and Russia.

2017 Members Showcase

CALL FOR ENTRIES: The Art Guild will hold its 2017 Members Showcase exhibit at The Art Guild, Elderfields Preserve, 200 Port Washington Blvd., Manhasset, NY 11030. All TAG members are invited to enter their artwork. Non-members may become members at the time of submission.
ELIGIBILITY: All TAG members (14 years and older) may submit. Membership must be current. One entry per member. All styles are welcome. All works must be original and completed with in the last five years. Works previously exhibited at The Art Guild Gallery will not be accepted. The Art Guild reserves the right to choose the artwork to be included in the exhibition. Works to be included in this exhibition must be available from May 22 through Sunday, June 25, 2017, at 3 pm.
JUROR OF AWARDS: Dan Christoffel is an award-winning artist with fifty years teaching experience. His expertise extends from oil painting and sculpture (in terra cotta, stone and steel) to print making. He is an accomplished portrait artist and art lecturer including visiting lecturer at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Committed to excellence in education, he has been a visiting artist at schools across Long Island, an adjunct professor and an artist in residence at LIU Post. He presently has two sculptures included in the 911memorial.org collection.
