“H2O Flow Splash Drip” a Juried Competition and Exhibition Water, water all around! Tranquil and stormy, life-giving and thirst quenching.

CRITERIA All styles from abstract to realism are welcome. All works must be original, and have been created in the last five years. References used in the creation of the submitted work must be the artist’s own, or copyright-released for use in this work. The selection committee’s decision is final. The curating committee’s decision is final. Works to be included in this exhibition must be available from March 30 through April 26, 2020.

MEDIUMS Including but not limited to acrylic, oil, watercolor, pastel, mixed media, collage, encaustic, etching/prints, or sculpture with pedestal. (NO COPIES, PHOTOGRAPHY, DIGITAL MANIPULATIONS, REPRODUCTIONS OR GICLEES.)

JUROR Doug Reina is a Pollock-Krasner grant recipient whose studio is in Setauket, New York.Reina is a full-time artist who creates work both on location, as well as in his studio of the landscapes and people that are part of his life.

Reina is also a cartoonist, whose work has appeared in the New Yorker magazine as well as with King Features Syndicate. He has recently published a book, Doug Reina, Under the Covers, (available on Amazon) which features cartoons and sketches pulled from his sketchbooks over the last 25 years. As a result of this background, humor is often an element in the subject of his paintings.

For the past several years, Reina has also held weekly painting lessons for adults from his studio and has also done several plein air events on Long Island’s north fork. Reina’s artwork has been exhibited in galleries, museums and public and private collections on Long Island, with some exposure in New York City, Connecticut and Florida.

SIZE AND FRAMING Size, with frame, must not exceed 36” on the longest side. Work should be cleanly matted and/or framed (if appropriate), wired securely for hanging, with the wire attached via screw eyes or D-rings to the frame, not the backboard. (Gallery wraps are acceptable BUT they must be at least 1” thick with all edges painted and no staples showing.) No saw tooth hangers, no tape or string on the back. Work must be labeled with the title, artist’s name, phone number, and email address.

FINALISTS The Selection Committee will review all entries and notify each artist as to the acceptance of the submitted work. The Art Guild has the right, in its sole discretion, to choose which eligible entries will be accepted to be exhibited. All decisions are final. Artists whose work has been selected will be notified after March 19.

DELIVERY OF ARTWORK Selected artwork, (ready for display), is to be delivered on the dates indicated below. Please provide a typed bio or artist statement, printed on one side of an 8.5 x 11 sheet of white paper.

*** OUT OF TOWN ENTRIES, PLEASE NOTE: If accepted, artwork may be delivered to The Art Guild by hand (200 Port Washington Blvd., Manhasset, NY 11030) or mailed to Port Washington Mailroom, 191 Main Street, Port Washington, NY 11050. If you are unable to retrieve your artwork, provide a self-addressed, pre-paid shipping label and packaging if necessary. It must arrive on or before March 27. Artwork must be framed according to the rules in the prospectus. NO GLASS! 

• If artwork is poorly framed, has dirty or damaged mat board/s, scratched or dirty plexiglass, or is otherwise unsuitable, it will not hang in the exhibit.

• Must be packed securely in protective packaging that we will be able to reuse to send your work back to you. We will do our absolute best to assure that your piece will be returned to you undamaged.The Art Guild will not be held responsible for damage incurred during shipping.

• Must be insured

• Return postage and insurance MUST be included in the package. A $5 fee will be assessed for handling.

JUROR Robert Silverman’s innovative techniques have been featured in American Artist Workshop Magazine and The Art of the Portrait, the official publication of the Portrait Society of America. His work has appeared at Crosby Street Gallery and Spring Studio Gallery in Soho, the Art League of Long Island, Edward Hopper House, The Art Guild of Port Washington, The National Art League, the Lockwood-Mathews Museum, as well as the National Arts Club and Salmagundi Club.

Mr. Silverman has a BA from the School of Visual Arts and has studied with Harvey Dinnerstein, Burton Silverman, Nelson Shanks and David Leffel. He is member of the PORTRAIT SOCIETY OF AMERICA, from whom he was honored in their Members Competition. He has conducted numerous classes and workshops in the tri-state area, including the Art Students League and has been recognized with numerous awards. “Town & Country, Landscapes, Seascapes, Cityscapes” a Juried Competition and Exhibition. A celebration of the landscapes, seascapes, and cityscapes that captures your artistic heart – from urban and industrial environments to beaches and majestic mountain vistas. JUROR David Peikon  Now in his 23rd year of painting full time, David has labored to learn every aspect of realism, working across all genres to produce an on- going autobiography in paint.
Self-taught and teaching others for the past 10 years, David has thought at great length about the process of learning to make art, how the brain processes images, how the painter creates illusions that emotionally resonate within the viewer’s brain. With each painting, he learns more, a never ending building process.
While best known for the painterly naturalism of his landscapes, David also enjoys painting the people who pass through his life, whether presented as portraits or figurative pieces. Among his portrait sitters, William F. Buckley Jr., Dr. George Church, Dr. David Steinberg, President of Long Island University and Nobel Laureates Drs. Elizabeth Blackburn, Thomas Cech, Carol Greider, and James D. Watson.

ENTRY FEE  Registration is required! (Fees below.) Entry fee is non-refundable.

CALL FOR ENTRIES The Art Guild invites all artists, 18 years and older (high school students ages 14-18 years may enter in the student category), to submit artworks for consideration for “GO! The Art of Transportation,” a Juried Competition and Exhibition. Train, plane, automobile, horseback, covered wagon, ferry, sailboat, bus, or bicycle, how do you get around town or around the world?

Patti Mollica, author of “Color Theory, an Essential Guide to Color” will be teaching the strategy behind working with color schemes and pushing color choices to the next level. Patti Mollica believes that truly great painting is not about the “subject matter,” but rather the way an artist communicates beauty, sensitivity and integrity in whatever is painted. Flowers, gardens and sunsets are no more worthy as painting subjects than a subway station full of weary commuters, or a closeup of an old rundown building with cascading fire escapes. She believes that a painter’s job is to show the viewer the inherant beauty of all subjects and scenes, most especially the ones that are not commonly thought of in an artistic light.

Although she is equally comfortable working in both oils and acrylics, she feels that the new developments in recent years to acrylics make them a perfect vehicle for infinite versatility and personal expression. This is explored and illustrated in depth in her book, “Modern Acrylics“.
