The Art Guild of Port Washington invites artists to submit diverse interpretations of the self. This juried exhibit encourages innovative self-portraits, actual portrait studies, or an image of object/objects that symbolically represent an original expression of self.
Artists age 18 and older are invited to submit artwork for consideration for this exhibit. Photography accepted.

Please be aware that the digital images you send should look as good as they possibly can. These will be the images that will be will be reviewed by our curators and displayed in our online gallery. Try to photograph your image in natural light, that the image is straight and that there is no glare on glass or varnished surface.
FINALISTS:
The Selection Committee will review all entries and notify each artist as to the acceptance of the submitted work. High school students will be reviewed and judged separately. The Art Guild has the right, in its sole discretion, to choose which eligible entries will be accepted to be exhibited. All decisions are final. Artists whose work has been selected will be notified either by email OR on our website.

All artwork must be framed. Frame size must not exceed 36” on the longest side. Gallery wraps are acceptable, but must be at least 1” thick and must not exceed 36″ on the longest side.
It must be wired securely for hanging with screw eyes or D-rings to the frame, NOT the backboard. No sawtooth hangers, tape, strings. We can wire for you for a $10 fee.
Work must be labeled on the back with the title, artist’s name, street address, phone number, and email.
Framing of your work must comply with the above OR IT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
Artwork may be sold directly by the artist with a suggested donation of 20% of the selling price from the artist to The Art Guild. Note, however, that sales may not be made at the exhibition.
All work must remain on view for the duration of the exhibit.
The Liability Waiver on the entry form must be signed by the artist submitting images for consideration. It is the responsibility of the participating artist to insure or self-insure any work submitted for inclusion in this exhibit.
LIABILITY WAIVER
I wish to have The Art Guild of Port Washington, Inc., (“TAG”) consider my artwork for exhibition as indicated in this Registration Form, and I acknowledge that TAG has the right, in its sole discretion, to choose the artwork to be exhibited. I also acknowledge that unrelated business or other activities may or will take place at the exhibition location during the exhibition and I assume any risk associated with such activities. I further acknowledge that I have been notified that I should carry my own insurance to be protected against loss, theft or damage to my artwork. I fully understand and agree that the following waiver, release and hold harmless agreement is binding on my heirs, assigns and legal representatives. In exchange for TAG’s consideration of my artwork, I agree to assume all risks of copying, theft, loss or damage to my artwork in connection with TAG’s decision to exhibit or not exhibit my artwork or in connection with the exhibition of my artwork, for the duration of the exhibition from and including delivery to TAG, through and including pickup, and knowingly and intentionally release, discharge, hold harmless, and agree not to sue TAG, its officers, directors, members, committee personnel, agents or owners and/or lessees of the premises where the exhibition is held (“Released Persons”) from any claim, that I may have or acquire in the future, arising out of my submission of artwork to TAG for its consideration for exhibition, for TAG’s exhibition of my artwork, or while it or I am on the premises where the exhibition is held, for, including but not limited to, copying, theft, loss, or damage to my artwork, personal injury, or death, whether caused intentionally or arising from the negligence of any Released Person, of any other person or any other cause, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law. The artist agrees to indemnify and hold harmless The Art Guild for any copyright claims arising from the display of his/her image. Whether or not any artwork submitted by me is chosen for exhibition, I consent to The Art Guild’s use of any artwork I submit (or an image representing such artwork) in connection with TAG’s communications to prospective members, members and the public.

Although painting a person in watercolor may seem daunting, it is every bit as approachable as creating a still life or landscape. Ted Nuttall demonstrates the techniques, and instills the confidence to enjoy painting people. Ted will discuss the benefits of photographic reference, as well as how to interpret a photo in order to give life and energy to the subject.
In Ted’s daily demonstrations and presentations, he shares his personal approach to painting – plus he introduces the work of other artists with the objective of inspiring enriched seeing and thinking skills. What’s more, significant time is allowed for one-on-one instruction. In an atmosphere that’s both creative and supportive, Ted encourages, in each participant, a renewed enthusiasm for his or her art – regardless of their skill level.
Ted Nuttall: A graduate of Colorado Institute of Art, Ted Nuttall is a figurative artist whose painting expression was born out of his observation of people. Ted is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, Watercolor West, Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, and enjoys Master Status with the Transparent Watercolor Society of America
Ted’s paintings continue to win awards in juried exhibitions throughout the country. And his work has been featured in numerous national and international art publications. Most recently, he was a featured artist in both the 2014 Russian publication “Masters of Watercolor” and in the 2013 French publication “Pratique Des Arts”. Ted was the featured cover artist for the February 2014 issue of Watercolor Artist magazine. Ted’s work has been published in North Light Books’, Splash 8 and Splash 10, and his painting “Whispering Smith” appeared on the cover of Splash 12.
Artist’s Statement: For as long as I can remember, I have been a fascinated spectator of human behavior – the quintessential people watcher. I naturally seek the unique character in everyone I encounter. Often, as I observe someone in his or her everyday environment, I am rewarded with a moment when a gesture or expression combine with the play of light and shadow.
A contemplative smile, hands cradling a book or carefully tying a shoe, a shadow cast by a pair of wire-rimmed glasses – and there occurs a pivotal instant when a story appears.
My paintings are an attempt to compose and thoughtfully record the nuances that transfixed these moments, these stories, in my mind.
Matisse expresses the notion superbly: “I do not literally paint that table, but the emotion it produces upon me.”

This course is for beginners through advanced students. Working from the long pose students will be introduced to concepts of structural anatomy of the face and head. Students will review comparative measuring, sight size methods, light and form, and various shading techniques used by artists throughout the 18th and 19th century. The goal of this course is for each student to walk a way with a strong understanding of drawing and painting the portrait not only skillfully and accurately but also with a broader understanding of historical concepts of portraiture. Demonstrations will be provided throughout the course and lectures on portrait drawing and painting methods used throughout the centuries by master artists.

Leeanna Chipana began her art studies at the Stevenson Academy of Fine Arts in Oyster Bay, NY in 2004 where she studied under painter and illustrator Attila Hejja. While working as his personal assistant Leeanna studied figure painting with Mr. Hejja. After Mr. Hejja’s sudden death in the Summer of 2007, Leeanna decided to devote her life to pursuing her own art studies more rigorously and dedicate herself to teaching traditional painting and drawing. She started by attending the New York Art Students League where she studied figure painting for two years with artist Nelson Shanks. She went on to continue her studies under full scholarship with Robert Armetta of the Long Island Academy of Fine Art at the Atelier Armetta program located in Glen Cove, NY. She attended the Water Street Atelier where she was enrolled in a full-time program dedicated to classical drawing and painting under artist Jacob Collins. Her work ranges from landscapes to still-life and portraits from life.
Leeanna continued her training at the Grand Central Atelier in New York in their full-time core program – the Water Street Atelier with Jacob Collins. She was a recipient of the John F. and Anna Lee Stacey Grant, a Hudson River Fellow and was awarded a scholarship to attend the New York Academy of Art. She teaches on Long Island’s North Shore.
