Juried Competition & Exhibition
March 4 – April 2, 2017
Criteria All styles are welcome. All works must be original to the artist and painted within the past five years. The selection committee’s decision is final. Works to be included in this exhibition must be available from February 27 – April 2, 2017.
MEDIUMS Works must have a paper (or synthetic paper) substrate. Mediums may include but are not limited to acrylic, oil, watercolor, pastel, ink, dyes, pencil (graphite or colored), charcoal, marker, mixed media, collage, encaustic, etching/prints or sculpture with pedestal. No photography. (NO COPIES, REPRODUCTIONS OR GICLEES.)
JUROR Award winning artist Kyle Blumenthal’s life is steeped in art. From a very early age, she immersed herself in art books, art prints and art works. Her father was a sculptor and served as her first teacher. Her paintings of international conductors and soloists at Lincoln Center have won her critical acclaim. Her exhibits in the greater New York area and on Long Island have earned high praise. She has taken special awards at the Sodarco Gallery in Montreal several times. Her commercial illustrations have been used by Panasonic, CBS, ABC and NY News One. In addition to creating art, Kyle is a teacher and mentor, especially teaching students in college and high school. Beauty in The Abstract – An Exploration

What is considered beautiful in Abstract Art? Is it a question of taste? One person’s stop-in-your-tracks beautiful is another person’s ugly. This exhibit seeks to offer differing ideas of beauty in Abstract Art. What is YOUR idea of Beauty?

JUROR Stan Brodsky A life-long resident of the New York area, he taught at C. W. Post College for 31 years and is now Professor Emeritus of Art. He has exhibited extensively for more than 50 years and received the Heckscher Museum’s 2013 Celebrate Achievement Award, for contributions to Long Island arts and culture.

LINE: Through Thick and Thin Exhibit April 9 – May 15, 2016
Line is one of the basic elements in art – descriptive, implied or abstract. Bold, soft, elegant or jagged. A line defines the curve of a hip. The lines on the highway define a journey. This exhibit is open to painting, drawing, print-making, mixed media and sculpture in which the line is a dominant component.
JUROR Award winning artist, Antonio Masi has been featured in articles in The Artist’s Magazine; PBS’s Sunday Arts, NBC-TV’s Weekend Today in New York,” as well as a book on his paintings New York’s Golden Age of Bridges, He is currently President of the American Watercolor Society. Families are invited to CreARTive at The Art Guild, on a Saturday in August 19, 2017, from 1-4 pm. The open house with FREE art-related activities such as tie dying, simple printmaking, and clay hand-building, painting, drawing, collage and more is a way for parents to meet instructors and familiarize themselves with The Art Guild. The projects will be geared for ages 5 through 12.
“Our art classes for kids are fun and educational,” said Susan Herbst, Associate Executive Director. “Our teachers are amazing professionals who come up with creative projects every week all year long. We’d like to reach out to parents, schools and the community to let them know that we offer fun, reasonably priced art classes for students of all ages – from kindergarten through high school, as well as college and beyond.”
This event is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor M. Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and is administered by The Huntington Arts Council, Inc.

The Silkscreen Monotype with Water-Based Media
July 9-10, 2016 10 am – 3 pm
A Two Day Workshop
$150 Members/$180 Non-Members
Come discover this unique process that combines screen printing with drawing and painting techniques using water-based materials. Non-toxic, versatile and simple to master. Draw or paint directly on the silkscreen to create unique prints and explore the layering possibilities for overprinting on drawings, prints and other media.
Students will work from their own images using materials such as pastels, watercolor, gouache, watercolor pencils, watercolor crayons, graphite and other materials. Students will need to purchase a reusable silkscreen and a squeegee. No prior experience or skill necessary.

About Stephanie Navon-Jacobson:
As an artist, I am always observing the world around me. Whether floral, landscape, animal, or figure, abstract or realistic, my images always go back to nature. I am first and foremost a printmaker, although I work in other mediums, too. I am a printmaker who paints, rather than a painter who prints.
I was originally attracted to printmaking in college. I loved the studio community a
spect as well as the various techniques. I like to experiment with various techniques. The possibilities seem endless. I also like the element of surprise each time you pull a print.
It is so satisfying to work with people who are new to printmaking or to teach experienced artists a new technique and watch their enthusiasm as they ‘get bit by the printmaking bug.’ Printmaking is such a versatile medium. It can stand alone or be incorporated with other mediums such as oil or watercolor. I encourage my students to add printmaking to their artistic arsenal and incorporate it with their other artistic endeavors.
