CALL FOR ENTRIES The Art Guild of Port Washington (TAG) will hold its  2020 Members Showcase Exhibit online from September 13-October 3, 2020. All TAG members, including HS students are invited to enter their artwork. Non-members can become members at time of submission. Deadline for submission extended: Monday, August 24 (11:59 pm).

 

ELIGIBILITY All TAG members, including HS students, may submit. Membership must be current. One entry per member. All styles are welcome. All works must be original and completed within the last five years. Works previously exhibited at The Art Guild Gallery will not be accepted. The Art Guild reserves the right to choose the artwork to be included in the exhibition.  

 

MEDIUMS Including but not limited to acrylic, oil, watercolor, pastel, mixed media, collage, photography, digital, encaustic, etching/prints, or sculpture with pedestal. (NO MASTER COPIES, REPRODUCTIONS OR GICLEES.)

 

JUROR OF AWARDS: Doug Dawson was born in Oak Park, Ill. He has taught art for Colorado Institute of Art, Colorado Christian University, and The Art Students League of Denver. He is a founding board member for the The Art Students League of Denver, where he presently teaches a Plein Air class and a Studio Landscape class. He teaches 8 to 10 workshops around the country each year.

Doug has exhibited with and/or received numerous awards from a number of different art organizations, including,  The Pastel Society of America,  American Watercolor Society, Knickerbocker Artists,  The National Academy of Western Art,  Southeastern Pastel Society,  Pastel Society of West Coast,  Audubon Artists,  Kansas Pastel Society,   Allied Artists,  the Pastel Society of the Southwest,  the Pastel Society of New Mexico, the Pastel Society of Oregon,  the Pastel Society of Colorado,  and the International Association of Pastel Societies.
To honor his achievements, he was given the title of Master Pastelist by the Pastel Society of America (NY, NY) in 1985 and awarded the title of Master Circle by the International Association of Pastel Societies in 2005  (California). REGISTRATION AND ENTRY FEE Pre-registration is required! (Fees below.) You MUST pre-register no later than August 17. Works will be accepted on a first come first served basis. There is no jurying-in process, however you will need to send us an image for our online exhibit.

ENTRIES One (1) digital submission uploaded to our website or emailed to artshow@TheArtGuild.org. Images should be  between 1 and 3MB each. Label your images as follows: artist’slastname_firstname_entrynumber_title.jpg (ex: smith_john_1_beachsunset.jpg). Do not use the # or other symbols in the file name. You MUST change the actual name of the image file. Images CANNOT be named “image.jpg” or “fullrender.jpg” or similar – our database overwrites these images. If you email the images, you must include your name, contact information and the title, medium, value, and size in your email. We will invoice you for the entry fee. All entry fees must be paid by Monday, August 17 to be included into the exhibit.

 

 

 

Please be aware that the digital images you send should look as good as they possibly can. These will be the images that will be displayed in our online gallery. Try to photograph your image in natural light, that the image is straight and that there is no glare on glass or varnished surface. (It is preferable to photograph without glass.) About Katrina Benson:

Katrina Benson is the Vice President of the Art Guild and an award-winning artist working primarily in colored pencil and watercolor. Her work gravitates toward realism, although she enjoys all forms of artistic expression and experimentation. “Working in realism is an opportunity to explore easily overlooked nuances in the world around me. About Jill Velasco:

 Jill Velasco is an exhibiting Artist, Graphic Designer and Educator with a BFA in Graphic Design and an MS in Visual Arts Education.  For over ten years, Jill has taught fine art classes in both schools and studios throughout Long Island to both children and adults of all levels. In addition to teaching workshops, creating both digital and fine art for clients, she currently moderates and mentors colored pencil enthusiasts via social media for the publication Colored Pencil Magazine. Colored pencil, pastel and acrylic paint are the featured media in her portraits, botanical and wildlife art.  Jill is a proud member of the Colored Pencil Society of America, American Society of Botanical Artists, Westbury Arts Council and The Art Guild of Port Washington.

Wallflowers Exhibit at Northwell Health, Lake Success
October 16, 2018 – April 28, 2019

This exhibit features most of the works from the Wallflowers Exhibit which was on view in the galleries at Elderfields in September 2018. The exhibit focuses on the beauty of flowers – from big lush peonies and perfect roses to the smallest snowdrops and dandelions, few things evoke more memories or encompass more symbolism. We long for the first flowers of spring in our gardens and they commemorate special occasions and holidays throughout the year. Artists depicted rolling meadows, formal gardens, a single bud in a vase or enough to fill a room.

The Art Guild and Northwell Health invite the public to the closing reception for the Wallflowers Exhibition on Sunday, April 28, from 3:00-5:00 pm at Northwell Health’s new Center Street Hallway of the Center for Advanced Medicine, 450 Lakeville Road, Lake Success, NY. The reception is free and open to the public. The exhibit, on view since October 16, 2018, will close on April 28.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring a little color and joy to the patients, their loved ones and the hardworking staff at Northwell Health.” said The Art Guild’s Executive Director, Lisa K. Grossman. “We hope that everyone, including Northwell’s medical and administrative staff, will join us for this reception.”

The exhibit, features 76 artworks by 52 artists, adds cheer and color to the hallway with a virtual garden of beautiful blooms, buds and blossoms in a variety of mediums. Expressive Pastels: Loosen Up and Add Some Spice to Your Paintings with Karen Margulis PSA IAPS- MC

It has been said that as artists we are either moving toward or away from abstraction. No matter where we fall on this journey we can all benefit from ideas to help us create more expressive paintings. Karen is always striving to interpret her subject by including her personal touch rather than a copying the reference or painting exactly what she sees. 
On day one of the workshop, she will share some of the ways she has discovered that helps her paint in a more expressive ‘loose’ manner. She will introduce a simple method for a successful pastel painting from the planning stage to the addition of those final important spices!
On the second day, we will explore the use of underpaintings and how they contribute to more expressive pastel paintings. She will demonstrate two different underpainting techniques. Students will use an underpainting to develop their paintings.
On the third day, we will continue to explore techniques that will lead to more expressive paintings with an exploration of new and exciting ways to start a pastel painting.
There will be demos, handouts and plenty of individual help at the easel during the workshop.

 

Biography
Karen Margulis was born in Connecticut and was raised in South Florida. She currently lives in Marietta, Georgia. Karen received her BA in Education from the University of Florida. Karen’s primary medium is pastel, although she enjoys all mediums. She is a Master Circle recipient of the International Association of Pastel Societies and a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America. She is also a Member of Excellence in the Southeastern Pastel Society. Her landscape and wildflower paintings have received recognition in many International exhibitions including PSA and IAPS where her Queen Anne’s Lace painting won the 2011 poster competition. Karen’s work has been featured in the June 2014 issue of Pastel Journal. Her painting, Summer Reprise, was chosen for the cover image.

Karen is a Daily Painter, blogger – Painting My World, and has a very popular YouTube channel. She teaches workshops and classes throughout the country and online.
